Form follows silence.
The discipline of reduction.
AKANSHA is an independent design studio founded on the premise that everyday garments and domestic objects can possess architectural integrity, material honesty, and quiet permanence.
Three Foundations of Our Practice
01 / Radical Material Honesty
We decline synthetic coatings, plastic blends, and superficial chemical treatments. If an object is silk, it is raw, textured noil silk from cocoons left undyed. If a bag is leather, it is full-grain cowhide tanned with vegetable barks in Tuscany. The material speaks directly for itself without cosmetic simulation.
02 / Traceable Generational Ateliers
We do not mass manufacture. Every edition is realized in partnership with small, independent, generational craft workshops:
- Kyoto, Japan: Shuttle-loom weaving and raw silk development.
- Hawick, Scotland: 3D whole-garment superfine Geelong knitwear.
- Santa Croce sull'Arno, Italy: Slow vegetable-bark pit tanning.
- Takaoka, Japan: Hand-patinated sand-cast architectural bronzes.
03 / The Anti-Seasonal Stance
The fashion calendar produces artificial urgency and relentless disposal. AKANSHA operates through numbered editions released only when the research, tailoring, and fit have achieved absolute balance. Each piece is made to be lived in for decades, acquiring depth, softens, and personal history with time.
